Another 66 people were killed after heavy floods triggered by the fresh round of massive rains struck Afghanistan's northern Faryab province, raising the death toll from flooding to 134 in the war-torn country over the past three days, an official said on Sunday.

Heavy floods hit at least four districts of Faryab province on Saturday night, resulting in 66 fatalities, aside from financial losses, Asmatullah Muradi, spokesman for the Faryab governor, said in a statement.

At least five people were injured and others were still missing.

The flooding damaged more than 1,500 houses, inundated over 1,000 acres of agricultural land and killed livestock in their hundreds, he said.

Another 18 people had died in floods on Friday in Faryab.

Flash flooding that also struck the western province of Ghor on Friday killed more than 50 people.

Afghanistan has been witnessing unusually heavy seasonal rains.

In April, devastating floods killed at least 70 people in western Farah and Herat, and southern Zabul and Kandahar provinces.
